Remembering a legend - Thierry Mugler Haute Couture 1995

In 1973, Mugler created his first personal collection called "Café de Paris". His sophisticated urban aesthetic was a resounding success and by 1978, he had opened his first Paris boutique at the Place des Victoires in the 1er. During the 1980s and 1990s, Mugler became renowned for his eccentric creativity and showmanship. Inspired by the mythical and fantastical, he transformed women into dream-like other-worldly goddesses. 

In the last few years Mugler has become one of the most desirable labels again - loved by legends such as Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa and who could forget Nikki Minaj’s iconic Met Gala look.

Thierry Mugler Haute Couture 1995 Runway Show

The unforgettable Couture Fall Winter 1995 show was an hour-long extravaganza that took place at Cirque d’Hiver marking the label’s 20th anniversary. The show was pure decadence, featuring cameo performances from supermodels past and present. Pat Cleveland appeared from the ceiling dressed as the Madonna; with legend after legend walking the runway -  Jerry Hall, Carmen Dell’Orefice and Veruschka von Lehndorff to name but a few.

In 1995 he rewrote the rule book on couture, using latex and chromatic sexbots. With his unmatched eye for the female form; Mugler presented an ultra-sharp fetishistic vision of the future.

We love the luxe fetish pearl nipple tassles, the beautifully intricate chunky chokers crafted from metallics and leather, embellished with huge crystals.  Oversized pearls are thrown casually over latex and lace, with cascading cabochons and jewel-encrusted bibs.

And now with Thierry Mugler’s passing today this show is more unforgettable than ever.
